Registration Remains Open for Junior Appalachian Musicians Classes – Already Under Way

A new session of the Center’s Alexander Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) classes is currently under way but new students are welcome and registration remains open for this ongoing class series.

JAM classes are held on Tuesdays from 4:00pm – 5:00pm for youth and 5:00pm – 6:00pm for adults.  Classes are held at the Center’s Educational Complex (70 Hiddenite Church Road). Cost for the 6-week session is $30 and registration may be made by calling Alexander JAM Coordinator, Allison Houchins, at the Hiddenite Arts & Heritage Center: (828) 632-6966.

The Center’s JAM program begins its fourth year of teaching traditional Appalachian style string band music. Classes include instruction in guitar, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, and bass.  Students learn “family style” in as a group with breakout sessions in smaller groups and one-on-one instruction.

Teachers in the Center’s JAM program includes Chad Ritchie, Sam Childs, and Veda Bafford.

Loaner instruments are available to students free of charge on a first-come-first-served basis.
