In partnership with the Town of Taylorsville and Alexander County Government, the Hiddenite Arts & Heritage Center will continue their annual Summer on the Square Free Concert Series on Saturday, July 6th with a performance by Kent Dowell and the Bluegrass Blend.
This free community event will be held from 7:00pm-9:00pm at the new Alexander County Courthouse Park, located at 131 West Main Avenue, Taylorsville. In case of rain, concerts will be moved to The Center’s Educational Complex (70 Hiddenite Church Road). Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets for their convenience. Following the concert at around 9:45pm, a fireworks display will take place at Alexander Central High School, sponsored by Alexander County Government with support from Craftmaster Furniture.
Kent Dowell and the Bluegrass Blend originated in Statesville, NC in 1976. Performing today with a band that includes two original members, they continue to entertain audiences with a variety of standard, hard driving tunes from Flatt and Scruggs to contemporary songs by the Beatles and the Everly Brothers.
Members include: Kent Dowell on banjo and vocals and Rick Allred on mandolin and vocals (both were members of the Country Gentlemen in the early 80”s), Garry Poole on guitar, and Robert Sprye on acoustic bass.
