The Hiddenite Center is excited to announce an upcoming theatrical opportunity for homeschool families in our region! On April 25, 2023, at 9:30 am, Appalachian State University’s Appalachian Young People’s Theatre will perform a production of “The Hundred Dresses,” a Newbery-Award winning book by Eleanor Estes at the Hiddenite Center’s Education Complex (70 Hiddenite Church Rd, Hiddenite). The musical adaptation masterfully handles topics such as bullying, friendship, and forgiveness. Packed with humor, colorful characters, and memorable songs, this timeless tale explores the bonds of friendship and the willingness to be yourself and the courage that it takes to stand up to others, even when standing alone. Students will have the opportunity to experience live theater in an up close and personal setting. Special “take home” curriculum sheets for parents to continue the experience at home will be shared. Appalachian Young People’s Theater is under the direction of Gordon Hensley. The play is produced by special arrangement with the Dramatic Publishing Company of Woodstock, IL. The cost of this event is $2.50 per ticket for guests 5 years of age to adult. Children under the age of five are free. Pre-registration for this event is required. Guests can register online at www.hiddenitearts.org or by calling the Hiddenite Center at 828-632-6966.
